The Artist

I am Sweet Ankofa Chris, a surrealist portrait painter based in Los Angeles, CA.

I create surrealist portraiture to suspend time and the pressure it puts on identity. 

My work is inspired by the evolving perception of self, others, and the beyond. I focus on portraits because I am enamored by the layers that make the guise. As it is, has been and is to be. 

Through my work I hope to inspire viewers to see relationships as reflections. I often explore topics of identity and ancestral connections through line work and reflective mediums and curation .I have stuck with the use of line work and portraiture to explore depth and dimension, they allow viewers to see the pieces that make the whole.  

I hope viewers come away reflective and graced by the transient nature of identity. Each piece is a reflection of my practice of honoring the individual as a liminal being.  Through my art I hope to inspire viewers to look at themselves an others more lovingly, gracefully.
